Victorian beds date from between 1837 and 1901; during the reign of Queen Victorian in Britain.
The Victorian period enjoyed an eclectic mix of styles with many of the beds from this period displaying a flair for revivalism, drawing inspiration from gothic, rococo and classical forms often blending influences together. Earlier Victorian beds were more restrained in design giving way to the more elaborate designs of the High Victorian period, later styles including Gothic Revival or Neo-Gothic, the Japanese influenced Aesthetic movement and the Arts and Crafts movement. Mahogany was still the timber of choice, with walnut, oak and rosewood also being used. Stylistically Victorian brass beds favoured rounded frame versus Edwardian beds which favoured square frames.
