Edwardian beds date from between 1901 and 1910; during the reign of King Edward VII in Britain.
The Edwardian era is probably best known for its tendency to revive formally popular styles from previous eras and mix them together to create modern pieces which still retained features of the earlier designs often favouring the simple elegant lines of the Georgian period. Mahogany was the timber of choice during this period often using satinwood inlays and ebony stringing to decorate headboards and footboards.
Stylistically Edwardian brass beds favoured squared frame versus Victorian beds which favoured rounded frames. The Arts and Crafts movement had a strong influence on designs of beds of this period with makers such as Heals and Liberty and Co producing some classic designs of the era.
